The Responding to social isolation and loneliness micro-credential discusses the essential knowledge and skills needed by frontline professionals and volunteers to understand, identify, and respond to social isolation and loneliness in different populations.

It is designed for quick learning, with each topic offering actionable insights with fictional character case studies providing opportunities for reflection.

This micro-credential was developed in consultation with people who have lived experiences of social isolation and loneliness alongside industry experts and academics working in the field.

Who can take the course?

This course is designed for volunteers engaged in community support and outreach activities (such as sporting clubs and neighbourhood centres), frontline professionals including social workers, community-based healthcare workers, educators, and community services workers, as well as organisations and agencies focused on mental health, social services, and community wellbeing.

How long does it take?

The course will take approximately 4-5 hours, self-paced.

Will I receive a certificate?

This course equips participants with practical skills to identify, prevent, and address social isolation and loneliness in Queensland, understand its prevalence, and recognise groups most at risk within the community. Upon completion, participants receive a digital badge, which may contribute towards continuing professional development (CPD) points. Participants should confirm eligibility with their professional body.

The course is currently free for eligible Queensland-based applicants.
